A Multi-Engine add on allows a pilot to operate as pilot-in-command of an aircraft with more than one engine. Multi-Engine rated pilots will experience a remarkable improvement in aircraft performance, including an increase in speed, power, and rate of climb.

Blue River Aviation in Palmer, Alaska offers a variety of pilot courses – both Part 61 and Part 141 – including Private Pilot License (PPL), Commercial Pilot License (CPL), Instrument Rating (IR), Multi-Engine Add-on, Airline Transport Pilot (ATP), Single Engine Sea Rating (SES), and more.

To obtain a Private Pilot License (PPL) at Blue River Aviation, you must complete private pilot flight training, including a minimum of 40 flight hours, passing a written knowledge test, and successfully completing a practical flight test with a designated examiner.

Our main hangar and maintenance facility are located at the Palmer airport, PAAQ, in the heart of Palmer, Alaska. Check out our custom Google Map with all the key locations you’ll need to know for the duration of your flight training.

After the private license, you can work on your Instrument Rating, which allows you to fly in low visibility weather conditions. With this new skill you may fly in a greater variety of weather conditions, thereby increasing the usefulness of your private pilot license. You can also earn a Multi-Engine rating, and fly airplanes with more than one engine. To purse a career as a professional pilot, you can earn a Commercial or Airline Transport Pilot certificates. If you like to teach, the Certified Flight Instructor ratings allow you to teach others how to fly.

For those not specifically pursuing a career path, Blue River is also equipped to offer tailwheel and high performance endorsements, sea plane ratings, and winter flying instruction; including landing with wheels or skis on ice and snow.

To obtain a Commercial Pilot License (CPL) at Blue River Aviation, you must have a Private Pilot License, complete a minimum of 250 flight hours, pass a written knowledge test, and successfully complete a practical flight test with a designated examiner. Yes, you can earn your Instrument Rating (IR) at Blue River Aviation’s Alaska flight school. You must have a Private Pilot License, complete a minimum of 40 flight hours under instrument conditions, pass a written knowledge test, and successfully complete a practical flight test with a designated examiner.

On a limited, case-by-case basis, Blue River’s CFIs may provide instruction in your personal aircraft if the individual CFI and Blue River Aviation are added as “named insured” on your policy. Additionally, Blue River bills this instruction at $95/hour. Contact our front office with questions!

The Float Rating course at Blue River Aviation in Palmer (flight training near Anchorage, Alaska) teaches you how to safely operate floatplanes. It covers the fundamentals of water operations, docking, ramping, and various other techniques unique to floatplane flying.

To enroll in any pilot course at Blue River Aviation’s Alaska flight school, you must be at least 17 years old (18 years for a Commercial Pilot License), possess a valid FAA Medical Certificate, and be able to read, speak, and understand the English language.

The duration of pilot training at our flight training school depends on the specific course you choose and your availability to commit to the training. Generally, a Private Pilot License can be earned in 3-6 months, while a Commercial Pilot License and Instrument Rating may take 6-12 months or longer. But honestly, it takes as long as you need it to! Our team is equipped to customize a training schedule to meet your needs.

Let’s be totally honest here. No one, regardless of what they may advertise, can guarantee you a rating or a certificate. What we do promise is that we will provide a training experience that is second to none, with meticulously maintained training aircraft, mature and experienced flight instructors, and the best views on the planet.
